Genealogy |
The lineage of the Tobelia family can be
traced back to the dawning of the kingdom. The family achieved its present
status under the reign of King Kear (518-552), who founded the dynasty,
which still rules Sharevaan. In the aftermath of "The Battle of the
Crimson Mist" a young commander by the name of Trime the Claw was
knighted and enfiefed by the king. The commander took the name Tobelia,
which meant "Savior" or "the Believer". Trime became
the founder of the Tobelia clan.
The Tobelia family played a small but significant part when king Caad
secured trade privileges with the Kyrean emperor around 750. In 764 the
king's cousin Cerdec married Firinna, daughter to Kanduc
"One-hand" Tobelia. By getting blood relations with the royal
family, the Tobelias were given the royal right to add "of the"
before the clan name. Kanduc Tobelia is the first of the clan to be titled
of the Tobelia. |

In 765 the Tobelias receives a seat in the
High Council of Sharevaan and is given the chief trade privileges in Baryn
(the 2nd most important settlement in Sharevaan). In 812 Lord Aranakh
marries the elven noble Lady Cilifa of the Clearwater elves, thus
ensuring trade privileges with the elves of Sharevaan. In 821 Sobek of the
Tobelia makes the first exclusive spice contract with Niben (a empire
southeast of Sharevaan).
Lord Dumar of the Tobelia gains trade privileges with the Flaming Axe
tribe in 911 after saving the Runehand clan from an orcish army. Arandor
of the Tobelia is born later that year. Lord Arandor of the Tobelia (911-
) is the present leader of the Tobelias. In 944 he marries the elven noble
Lady Eledrin of the Clearwater elves.
Sir Derin of the Tobelia, heir to the Tobelia estate, is born in 946. |

The House of Tobelia is the second
most powerful mercantyler house in Sharevaan. The Tobelia trade in small
but valuable goods, such as Spices, Gems, Herbs, some Weapons, information
etc. The caravans of Tobelia travel by land and sea and are always
heavily protected by the Veiled Dragons, an elite force of the Tobelia
House. House of Tobelia relies heavily on business intelligence. This task
is carried out by the Shadow Company, a network of "information
gatherers".
The forces of the House are relatively small and does not engage in open attacks on
other caravans or mercantylers. The Tobelia way is more subtle, or as the
saying goes: "The House of Tobelia does not get mad, but it gets even". |
Business areas |
House of Tobelia is divided in
three business areas; Trade, Protection and Information. Sir Arandor is
the head of the enterprise and responsible for all trading. Lady Eledrin
is head of the Veiled dragons. Sir Derin was the head of the Shadow
Company, but during his absence this area is headed by Lady Eledrin.

Agents |
House of Tobelia has many agents throughout
the empire and, to some extent, beyond. Important agents are treated as
family members and all agents may display a small yellow star on their
person. Agents always dress in dark colors.
Agents operates out of offices, which typically looks like this one in
Theles Rukai. Most of the offices are smaller, though. |
|
The Veiled Dragons |
The Veiled Dragons guard caravans, houses and
protects the Tobelia family and it's agents.
The typical soldier wear dark clothes with no distinctive marks and is
armed with scimitar and longbow. The arrows are sometimes coated with a
potent sleep drug. The actual head count of the dragons is kept secret.
The Veiled Dragons are regarded as a highly trained group of loyal
warriors. Most bandits avoid attacking the Veiled Dragons. |
|
The Shadow Company |
The shadows are basically unknown
outside the House of Tobelia. They gather information by magical and
conventional metods. It is rumored that the Tobelia archives even holds
sensitive information on the emperor. |

Eledrin instructs two Stalkers, dressed in formal headgear. These veils
are only used by high-ranking Stalkers at meetings in Shadowhome.
The ranks within the Shadow Company are:
Stalker, Night Stalker (ringleader), Shadow Stalker (area leader) and
Shadow (reserved for family members, like Derin and Alsarra) |
